Event Details

Embolden2019 is Australia’s only national event focused on primary prevention of Elder Abuse.

Registrations close on 30th August.

You, me, us explores the important role that interdependence plays in age friendly communities. It addresses a tendency for ‘othering’ those whose age, ethnicity, ability, socio-economic status, sexuality or gender are not the same as ours. It provides opportunities for participants to learn from each other and draws in a range of cultural groups to share stories and strategies about respect for Elders. The theme acknowledges the importance of tackling the stigma and shame some Elders experience in relation to their dependence on others and also explores:

  1. common-unity: it takes a village to achieve respect
  2. valuing independence and embracing interdependence
  3. learning from each other
  4. cross-cultural respect
  5. capacity building through partnerships
  6. what works – reflection on action.

Embolden focuses on primary prevention of Elder Abuse – or changing culture to address ageism and build respect for older people.
