This one day interactive training is aimed at family violence practitioners who have an applied understanding of identifying and responding to family violence and are seeking to strengthen their practice in building and sustaining relationship with CALD clients. The training enables participants to reflect on their own and clients’ cultural context and examine how these may impact on the worker/client relationships. The training aims to increase participants’ confidence in supporting CALD women experiencing family violence and raise awareness of the additional challenges they face.

Outcomes include:
• Develop an in depth understanding of barriers and challenges for CALD women subjected to family violence
• Develop an understanding of how culture and migration history affects clients capacity to seek and sustain support
• Increase awareness of the principals of culturally responsive practice and intersectionality
• Enhance skills in cross cultural engagement
• Enhance skills in risk assessment and safety planning for CALD women

Audience

Family Violence practitioners with pre-existing knowledge on recognizing, responding and referring women experiencing family violence. This may include refuge workers; family violence case managers; outreach family violence workers; family violence liaison officers; applicant workers from courts.
