This training session aims to highlight the gendered nature of children’s lives, our own part in this and the possibilities for unburdening children from the constraints and inequities that gender stereotypes place on them. Gender inequality begins in childhood and early years settings provide an important opportunity to redress this. This session also looks at the link between gender inequality and violence against women.
This training draws on Creating Gender Equity in the Early Years, a resource created by Darebin City Council that provides useful tools for taking action in early years settings. Participants will learn how to use the tools and receive a copy of the resource on USB.
This training is open to people who work in early years or support services in the northern metropolitan region of Melbourne (Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Yarra). It is designed for people who work in child care or kindergarten services, maternal and child health, family support services, libraries or other services with a focus on early childhood. It may also be relevant to people whose work has a general focus on gender equity.
