The LGBTIQA+ Family Violence Network and Wombat Housing and Support Services are putting on a half-day event that aims to highlight the barriers and challenges that LGBTIQA+ people face in seeking safe accommodation when fleeing family or intimate partner violence. We hope to provide workers of all levels in the family violence and housing and homelessness sectors with tools and ideas to reduce these barriers and create a more inclusive and responsive service sector for the LGBTIQA+ community.
Presentations on the day will include:
–Trans and Gender Diverse people in accommodation: how assumptions and standards of beauty create further barriers to accessing services – Starlady, Zoe Belle Gender Collective
–Lived experience of family violence and the housing sector – Harley Bowra, LGBTQ Youth Advocate
–What’s happening in this space? Project updates from the sector.
–Best practice tips and resources – Starlady (Zoe Belle Gender Collective) and Ash Shanahan (Wombat Housing and Support Services)
