Event Details

This practice-focussed workshop explores the how-to of conversations with men around responsible fathering, based on ethics, values, and aspirations. Through Tracy’s work with perpetrator programs, and advocacy support work with women and children who are living with men who are abusive, she developed a framework for practice within the context of the family. Tracy’s work is grounded in narrative therapy and feminist theory practice.

This workshop will explore:

  • working with fathers who are perpetrators, naming and detailing the hopes of men, partners and fathers;
  • moving beyond good intentions to daily practices of respect;
  • considering responsible fathering interventions that appreciate connections between fathers’ relationships with their children and men’s behaviour towards their children’s mothers;
  • exploring moving from fathered centred parenting to child-centred parenting;
  • developing plans with the man for ethical and responsible actions.

This workshop is suitable for family support workers, domestic violence workers, child protection workers, and all practitioners with an interest in having more effective and productive conversations with fathers who have perpetrated domestic and family violence.
