Last month, the Federal Government informed the National Family Violence Prevention and Legal Services Forum (NFVPLS) its funding would not be renewed past June 2020.
The group’s chair, Antoinette Braybrook, was devastated by the decision.
‘We are in absolute shock that we are having to fight for this. … We have survived on $244,000 a year, and that has enabled us to bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s voices to the table.’
Djirra, the Victorian branch, and the National Family Violence Prevention Legal Services Forum are advocating to get the funding reinstated.
In more recent news, the Federal Government has offered to distribute the funding across each of the 14 FVPLS providers.
