My Health Record is a new national digital health record system. By the end of 2018, everyone in Australia will have a My Health Record, unless they opt out.
The new system may present particular concerns for victim survivors of family violence. For example parents have access to information about their children’s health, including where and when children have been attending appointments.
Parents can restrict access to a child’s record from another parent, when they are being accessed to perpetrate further violence. Women can contact the My Health Record helpline on 1800 723 471 if they have any concerns about privacy.
A number of factsheets have been developed in relation to security and privacy: Family and Domestic Violence My Health Record , Parents and Guardians, Setting Access Controls and a detailed Consumer Directed Security and Privacy Tips e-booklet.
