The NIFVS Regional Integration meeting Committee has endorsed a change of title for Sarah Johnson, from Regional Integration Coordinator (RIC) to ‘Principal Strategic Advisor’. The new title better describes the representative and advisory focus of the role both regionally and at a statewide level, aligning with similar changes for RIC titles in other regions across Victoria.
Since the role was established in 2006, RICs have lead regional service systems to improved integration and coordination. Ten years later, the role has evolved to provide advice on statewide reforms and policy, providing informed advice on regional issues and opportunities to the Regional Integration Committee, government and importantly across a range of sectors.
In its 2016 report, the Royal Commission into Family Violence stated that ‘the role of the family violence Regional Integration Coordinator should be elevated’. (Volume VI p125).
This small step will help ensure the position continues to be pivotal to responses to family violence across the service system during this significant reform period and beyond.
