Lawyer and advocate Liana Buchanan has been appointed as Victoria’s new Principal Commissioner for Children and Young People.
Currently the Executive Officer for the Federation of Community Legal Centres, she is also a commissioner with the Victorian Law Reform Commission.
Ms Buchanan is a strong advocate against family violence leading advocacy with state and federal governments to improve legal support for women and children affected by violence.
In this role Ms Buchanan will hold responsibility for the new reportable child safety conduct scheme in Victoria
