Following the Parliamentary inquiry into a the family law system, A better family law system to support and protect those affected by family violence: Recommendations for an accessible, equitable and responsive family law system which better prioritises safety of those affected by family violence report was presented to Parliament in December 2017. The report made 33 recommendations.
One of the recommendations was to develop a national risk assessment tool for use across the family law system and by all professions associated with the family law system. The report also recommends that consideration be given to the removal of the presumption of equal shared parental responsibility and that a child safety service be in incorporated into courts.
