The Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia have withdrawn from 1800Respect after deciding not to proceed with the subcontract with the lead agency, Medibank Health Solutions. They believe the subcontract would be inconsistent with the values, ethics, quality counselling practices and work-place relations that are foundational to their organisation and culture.
As a result of this decision, Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia will cease taking 1800RESPECT calls from the 28 October 2017.
Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia point to a trend in the NGO, health, welfare and community services sector of open tendering processes enabling providers who have profit as their primary goal to enter the service system.
