A recent RMIT University study has found that 16 percent of women surveyed had experienced economic abuse. The RMIT study surveyed 17,000 Australians.
The study highlights the need for banks, credit provider, utilities, housing and other service providers to be aware that women experiencing high levels of financial stress could potentially be experiencing financial abuse. Lead researcher Jozica Kutin suggests that banks can be a safe place for women to deal with some of these issues.
