Lunch and Learn: Understanding Substance Use Coercion

NIFVS Lunch & Learn events will continue to be delivered as free sessions throughout 2026 to strengthen the practice skills and confidence of professionals to safely and effectively respond to family violence.
This Lunch & Learn will be delivered by Emma Shaw, Clinical Manager Child Youth and Families at Odyssey Victoria.
Emma will speak about Substance Use Coercion, which is a form of abuse where a person using violence can pressure, manipulate, or coerce a victim survivor to use alcohol and other drugs and/or controls their access to substances, in order to gain power over them.
Substance use coercion is nuanced and can involve a multitude of tactics, which we will explore in this Lunch and Learn session.
Following a presentation, participants will have the opportunity engage in a Q&A.
